Calling all design majors

If I did my undergrad degree again, I might have considered a design major. Since it's new student outreach, I've been looking at a lot of fliers and posters and whatnot. I don't know if there's a rule for this kind of stuff, but one of my pet peeves for aesthetics is when people use more than 3 fonts. I usually only use 2... I know people like to change it up but what about bolding, italicizing, increasing size? IMHO it just looks too busy and schizophrenic.

Amen to that! One of the "rules" of design is not to use more than two fonts. Unless you're really good then you can make it work, but as they say, "Less is more."

I stared at "IMHO" for 5 minutes trying to figure out the acronym. i think i got it. "in my humble opinion?" I WIN.

Hahaha, I do agree, albeit it's easy to forget when you're not versed in design. Even I've had my +2 font instances (Ange had to remind me a couple of times in the past).

The worst ones are the ones who decide to use the really "scripty" type, thinking that it'll be prettier; it just makes it hard to read.

I think the only real rule to using font is to use each appropriately. Since a font style will set a certain tone and message, using too many fonts will confuse the message and branding. On the other end of things, the same goes for pieces that correctly uses many fonts to show diversity.
