Why A = Failure

Someone recently asked if I could remember a time when my parents were proud of me. It wasn't a question about whether they actually said the words, since that would have been a never. Was there some way I could tell though?

In the 5th grade, we had to do a report on a state and I chose Georgia. It was the only state other than California that I had any association with because my godmother had moved from there. I drew a giant peach on the cover page. I wrote about John Oglethorpe. I received an A+++ on that report.

When I showed my parents, they didn't seem to have the same indifferent response nor did they tell me what I could have done better. Maybe they seemed a little surprised, a little impressed?

That's where the bar is set. If you're extraordinary, then maybe the most important people in your life will offer a glimmer of pride. It's why being told "be okay with good enough" is offensive.

We succeed because we're talented.

We succeed because we were given the resources to develop those talents.

We succeed because we're always chasing after the damn A+++.
